All things come to a close. I’m genuinely happy to announce my next adventure.
This chapter has been one of exploration and growth. I’ve had the privilege of being present with the people I love, spending time with them in a way that feels rare.
The legacy you build isn’t always about what you ship; sometimes it’s about who you showed up for. That time shaped me in ways I didn’t expect.
Gratitude
I need to thank the people who held me in this season. Ash and the Battle PT Team, Taryn Mitchell-Clegg, Angela Mahon Hoey, and Nigel Best were constant supporters and guides. Taryn and Angela, you were in my corner. Nigel, you showed me other potential paths I could explore and expanded how I think about my next moves. Drew Foxall, you reminded me why I belong in tech; good people who care are exactly what this space needs. Clinton Walker, you taught me about resilience and how to be present with great company.
That matters more than I can articulate.
Why Open Source
I’m staying true to where I started: a developer who believes in the open source ethos. The open source / Hyvä approach resonates deeply because of ownership, openness, and control.
Developers naturally learn from open source and give back to the community. It’s how we grow. But it’s more than that; it’s a fundamentally different model of ownership. With open source, you own your code, your product, your intellectual property. You control the direction, the vision, the future.
Compare that to platform-based SaaS ecosystems, where the platform itself owns the constraints. They can shift the rules, change the terms, pivot the strategy; sometimes day to day. You’re building on their land, following their playbook.
With open source, you own what you produce. That’s closer to how I believe development should work.
It’s an ownership model; I think of it like Prince owning his masters instead of handing them over to the industry. Too many people don’t realize what that freedom actually means: control over your code, your data, your destiny.
What’s Next
I’m joining Foundation Commerce as Head of Development. I’m stepping into this role grounded in everything I’ve learned; the importance of community, the power of ownership, and the value of building with intention. I’m grateful for Ryan Copeland and the team at Foundation Commerce for believing in this vision. Looking forward to building with you all and growing what we’re creating together.
